h(x)=23 is the function linear?

OpenStudy (debbieg):

A linear equation is one that can be put into "standard form" as: Ax + By = C Where A and B are not BOTH = 0, and A, B and C are all real numbers. So what do you think? Does this function "qualify" as linear? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but y=23 is a line

OpenStudy (anonymous):

parallel to x axis

OpenStudy (debbieg):

Yes, that's correct. All linear functions are lines. :) This is, specifically, a constant function. But constant functions fall within the criteria for linear functions. They are a particular type of linear function.

OpenStudy (debbieg):

If you review this, all the way down near the bottom it talks about constant functions: http://www.mathsisfun.com/algebra/linear-equations.html
