the amount of the deposit is independent of the x
OpenStudy (anonymous):
But i don't know how many months?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
irrelevant, they only want to know the one time deposit
OpenStudy (anonymous):
So it would be 400?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
or is that wrong?

no, 400x is dependent on the months x, so it's the rent
basically if you rented 3 months, you pay $400*3
the one-time deposit doesn't change no matter the months of rent
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Oh ok sorry, so it would be 1200?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes
OpenStudy (anonymous):
thank you.
OpenStudy (dobby1):
ok are you sapposed to simplify that equation or do you want me to make sure it is right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):
well it doesn't say simplify so idk.
OpenStudy (dobby1):
ok you do have to simplify because it wants to know how many sales (x) she has to make to earn 3,300
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok.
OpenStudy (dobby1):
\[1,200+.075x=3,300\]
OpenStudy (dobby1):
ok so to find out how many sales she needs to make we need to get x by its self. How would you do that?

@supsavannah
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Im honestly not sure.
OpenStudy (dobby1):
ok the first step is to get rid of the 1,200 so can you tell me how we would do that
Hint: if the 1,200 is positive we subtract it from both sides if it is negative we add it to both sides
OpenStudy (anonymous):
subtrac 1200 from both sides, right?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
subtract*

GREAT
OpenStudy (dobby1):
So now what does our equation looks like?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
hold on.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
is that right?
OpenStudy (dobby1):
Yes another way you could write it is
\[.075x=2,100\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok.
OpenStudy (dobby1):
ok now we have one more step to get x by its self. we do that by getting rid of the?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
.075?
OpenStudy (dobby1):
YES
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok

OpenStudy (dobby1):
ok so can you tell me how to do that?
Hint: if it is x times .075 we divide if it is x divided by .075 we multiply
OpenStudy (anonymous):
We multiply right?
OpenStudy (dobby1):
no we divide because it is .075x which is x times .075
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh ok sorry, my mistake.
OpenStudy (dobby1):
its part of the learning process

OpenStudy (dobby1):
so it is fine
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok, so multiple both sides?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
multiply*
OpenStudy (dobby1):
now we divide
OpenStudy (dobby1):
oops no we divide

sorry, i meant divide.
OpenStudy (dobby1):
I know I was just messing with you lol
OpenStudy (anonymous):
haha alright.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
28000?
OpenStudy (dobby1):
YES

OpenStudy (dobby1):
that was not so bad was it
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so it is x > 28000? or x <28000?
OpenStudy (dobby1):
\[x \ge28,000\]
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Thanks i have a few more questions, im gonna close this and open a new one.
OpenStudy (dobby1):
ok but first can I have a medal
