Why did the price of cotton drop after 1865?

"The end of the American Civil War meant that large scale cotton exports from America were available again. Additionally, while the conflict had been going on,Europe had sought out other sources,particularly from Egypt and India, so there was competition in the global market to supply cotton,and this helped to keep the price down after 1865."
