Which of the following inequalities matches the graph? http://www.gifpal.com/image/LyLNVQumGqG/ a) x > -3 b) x < -3 c) y > -3 d) y < -3
Do you want to know how to get the answer?
yesss please that would be very helpful x)
Alright. Well look at the graph. Tell me what you can see.
i know you're supposed to shade up when it's greater than and shade down when its less than but i'm not sure what to do when it's straight down like that
Okay so when it's straight down, the line doesn't intersect the y-axis. Your x value never changes. Thus you will only have all values of y when x is one number. So the line will have the equation of only x=something. What do you think?
sooo.. x= -3 , right?
Mhmm. That is the line equation. Now, is the line solid, or dotted? Do you know what each of those mean?
Then, is the region to the left or right of the line?
sorry, it wouldn't load. but anyway you use solid when its greater than or equal to or less than or equal to so in this case we would use a dotted line.. but i'm not sure if x is x>-3 or x<-3
Alright see it like this: if you choose less than -3, you will go to smaller and smaller values of x than -3. In simpler words, you'll be going left.
Well I guess I just gave the answer there... but see what I mean?
haha yeah i think i get it now :D so the answer is x<-3
Yup :) Also, I think it's because you typed it yourself that the answer don't have \[\le \]or\[\ge \]
yay thank you. do you think you could help me with one more question it's a little bit harder though :s
I can try :)
And you're welcome. Post the question as a new one.
