Does anyone know what a argument definition essay is? if so could someone explain it to me? because I have to write one soon my professor says to start working on it yet she has not yet posted the prompt and I do not know what that is.
Basically what is the goal of this kind of essay and what is it supposed to accomplish? if I know that then maybe I can figure out a thesis and start working on it I just need it defined please.
From what I can tell, an argument definition essay is basically an argumentative essay that centers around the definition of a particular word in your thesis/belief. I'm not sure if my explanation is too clear, but here's an example I found for you: Example: Joe is too bossy. Define “bossy” and provide examples of his bossy attitude (poor listening skills, shouting at people, making decisions without asking committee—these are what define “bossy” in your argument. Example: Low-carb diets are dangerous. Define what constitutes “low-carb” and define what you mean by “dangerous.” Cite studies showing harmful effects, how substances affect the body, etc. The general structure of an argument definition essay is (and, again, I found this online): (1) introduce the issue and state the claim (2) define key terms (3) present your first criterion and argument that your case meets your definition (4) present your second criterion and argument that your case meets your definition (5) present your third criterion and argument that your case meets your definition (if necessary) (6) anticipate and respond to possible objections/arguments (7) conclude with return to the “big picture,” what is at stake, why your argument is important, etc. If you still have questions, be sure to check out this website, as it provides more information on the Definition Argument Essay: http://english101-martin.wikispaces.com/Definition+Argument I hope you found this helpful and good luck! ^ - ^
Thank you that helps so much I do not even know if you know how much that helps me out. Sometimes the simple explanations are the best. Again thank you so much.
No problem! Good luck with your essay (:
