I started at EdX.org, so my advise would be to start there

The 6.00 classes are just posted on the MIT site.  This site lets people ask questions, and none of it really has anything to do with MIT other than the fact that their material is being used.

i just started the course - no need to sign up.... http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/electrical-engineering-and-computer-science/6-00sc-introduction-to-computer-science-and-programming-spring-2011/index.htm just go to where it says start course. download materials and then start in unit 1 and so on
