Break it up so you have the numbers first followed by the coefficients (x) all together. So, (-4)(-1/8) * ((-x)^3)(x). -4* -1/8 is 1/2. (-x)^3 will be (-x)(-x)(-x), or -(x^3), which, times the extra (x) will be -(x^4). Combine these two parts for -(1/2)(x^4), and there you go
