Why is the population growth in poorer countries higher?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because, most third world countries still depend on manual labor to feed their families and bring income in the home. An extra set of hands to help out is always helpful. From a standpoint of evolution, the poorer the human, the more likely that some offspring will not make it because you can't afford healthcare, so you have to have more to make sure your name continues on. They need to have more births because poorer countries tend to have a higher child mortality rate, so they need to keep giving birth until 1 or 2 survives.
