vector calculation

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

I am utilizing this component method in calculating the the angle of the R (resultant) of two vectors, but I think it's coming out incorrectly.

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

attached is the data

OpenStudy (xishem):

Why do you think it's incorrect? The angle looks appropriate given that the two vector components are almost identical.

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

\[{\tan ^{ - 1}}\] should be approximately 75°

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

≅45° is okay, but it will have o be in reference to F1 vector. I think it may be because I used sin(60°) for the F2 vector which is at 120°

OpenStudy (xishem):

Yes. 45º is the angle BETWEEN the vectors, not the angle of the resultant vector from the relevant axis.

OpenStudy (xishem):

To find the angle relevant to the axis, you should subtract the angle that the first vector is from the axis, since it looks something like:|dw:1380342676718:dw|

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

because if I followed that then my Equilibrium would mess me up with the calculation
