Kyra observed that 85% of the students at a library liked reading mystery stories. If 30 students at the library did not like reading mystery stories, the number of students at the library who liked mystery stories was _____. (only put numeric values, no other symbols)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if 85% like mystery then I guess 15% don't like reading it so, 30 students corresponds to 15% then if 30~15%, x ~ 100%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whats the squiggly line thingy?...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its not a good way of writing it,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what I mean to say is they are corresponding to each other

OpenStudy (anonymous):

15% are 30 students 100% are x students

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it says only put numeric values, no other symbols.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so do i just say 15 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

15% are 30 students 100% are x students you want 85% of the students

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

15% are 30 students so 15% of what = 30 .15x = 30 x = 30/.15 x = 200 and 85% of 200 = (.85)(200) = 170 so 30 people did not like reading stories and 170 liked reading stories. total of 200 people.
