How to tell whether this is linear or not?

A linear equation gives us a straight line while a quadratic equation will give us a curve. Linear equations are normally in the form of y = mx + c While quadratic equations are in the form of ax^2+bx+c The way I tell is just by looking at the x. If it is x^2+x+c then it is quadratic, if it is just x+c then it is linear
