Why did the "Zimmerman telegram" turn many Americans against Germany?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It declared that Germany would go on sinking American ships. It showed that Germany thought of the U.S. as a weak nation. It offered German assistance to Mexico in reconquering the American Southwest. It tried to persuade Americans of German descent to fight against the United States.

c i think after doing research but all it told me was: The Zimmermann Telegram was a 1917 diplomatic proposal from the German Empire to Mexico to make war against the United States. On 31 January, Germany resumed "unrestricted" submarine warfare, which caused many civilian deaths, including American passengers on British ships. This caused widespread anti-German sentiment. The Telegram greatly increased this feeling. may be help you.
