Why is environmental science considered an interdisciplinary science?

"Inter" means interactions between - intermurals are played between schools, interstates are roads between states... An Environmental Scientist needs many different disciplines of science to do their work - they need biology, chemistry, geology, hydrology, botony... put them all together and you have an interdisciplinarian
