A Figure has vertices at G (0,0) H(-1,-2) I(-3,0) and j (-2.5). Find the coordinates for the image of GHIJ AFTER THE Translation (x,y) > ( x-2.5, y+4) . Need help you guys i dont want the answer just show me how to do it ? and let me figure it out !

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Ah I just helped someone with a similar question. So you are given the translation formula and the original coordinates. What do you think do you have to do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

find the out what to pull in for the (x-2.5), and y +4 ?

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Well, x represents the x coordinate and y the y coordinate. You are given 4 points with coordinates that you want to translate with that formula. So...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

BUT DO I DO THAT FOR EACH ONE ? and just plot those coordinates

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Well, you are told to find the new coordinates. You can either do it for each one, or sketch the original diagram and translate it, then read the new coordinates. But the question asks for the coordinates so the first method would be easier. However, if you want to plot them go ahead. Show me what you get.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ugh im confused

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Well you can choose. Do you want to just plug in the coordinates or do you want to sketch?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you said sketching is easier right ?

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

No I said plugging in is easier haha. Because you just put in values and immediately get the answer. Compared to sketching, translating, and reading new coordinates.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i got for the new tran. is (-2.5,4)( -3.5,2) (-4,4) (0,6)

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Looks about right to me. Good job :) What method did you use and did you find it easy?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pullling in lol :P thx

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Wait for J it looks kinda off.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

And I O.o

OpenStudy (anonymous):

huh ?

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

I and J look off. Can you check if you did it right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i do that ?

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Do it again. For I(-3-2.5,0+4), J(-2-2.5,5+4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok 1sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(-5.5,4) and ( -4.5, 9)

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Correct :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so everything's right all i do is plot it right ?

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Hmm I don't think the question requires you to plot it. It says to "find the coordinates". What you have there ARE the coordinates.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok thank youuu :D

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

You're very welcome. Happy studying!
