give inverse of it is cold if it is 10 degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i believe i know the question but i got to say if its true or false "If its not then its not 10 degrees"

Directrix (directrix):

it is cold if it is 10 degrees If it is 10 degrees, then it is cold. p: it is 10 degrees q: it is cold p implies q reads: If it is 10 degrees, then it is cold. The inverse of p --> q is the following: ~p --> ~q [Read as: not p implies not q] Inverse: If it is not 10 degrees, then it is not cold.

Directrix (directrix):

Something is left out of what you wrote as the inverse: "If its not then its not 10 degrees" --> If it's not what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if its not cold then its not 10 degrees sorry about leavin that out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wouldn't it be a false statement?

Directrix (directrix):

What you just wrote is not the inverse of p implies q. You wrote the contrapositive. The portion of the given statement "behind" the "if" is the hypothesis.

Directrix (directrix):

Inverse: If it is not 10 degrees, then it is not cold. I would say "false" because it could be 5 degrees and it would be cold.
