1. Find the slope of AB 2. Find the slope of BC 3. Multiply the answer to 1 by the answer to 2 4. Is the result -1? 5. If so, find the slope of CD 6. Is the answer to 5 the same as the answer to 1 7. If so, it is a rectangle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The rectangle could be sideways on the graph.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

If consecutive sides are perpendicular and opposites sides are parallel, then it is a rectangle.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

A (-5,5) B (1,8) C (4,2) D(-2,2) slope of AB= 8−5/1+5=1/2 slope of BC = 8−2/1−4=6/−3=−2

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Slope of CD = \[\frac{2-(-2)}{4-(-2)}=\frac{4}{6}=\frac{2}{3}\]

OpenStudy (mertsj):

AB is not parallel to CD. It is not a rectangle.
