Ok so take it apart right? all are odd so elimnate 2 4 6 8 0.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Next take the next step and figure out what makes ten out of 1 3 5 7 9. Two options. 1 and 9 or 3 and 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since the next tip is the first and last add to make 8 you know it cant be 9 right? so elimnate 1 and 9 from the first part.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the middle digit has to be 3 or 7.

What two numbers add to make twenty and have a difference of four? smaller number =_______ and larger number =___________?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

10?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

? hang on what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let's call the smaller number x. That means the larger number is x+4. the total of x and x+4 is 20. So x+x+4=20 Combine like terms: 2x+4=20 Subtract 4 on both sides: 2x=16 Divide by 2 on both sides: x=8 x, which is the smaller number, is 8. And the larger number (8+4) is 12.
