Franz Ferdinand was the the archduke of Austria-Hungary right before WWI. He was assassinated and his assassination was carried out by rebels who were trying to become free from Austria-Hungary. Austria-Hungary wanted Serbia to deliver those who were responsible for the assassination but when when did not, conflict began to arise, countries started taking sides and thus began WW1
