examples of Law of Detachment as a school rule?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the law of detachment is explained here http://hotmath.com/hotmath_help/topics/law-of-detachment.html

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

example of an argument using the law of detachment 1) if it rains, then it gets wet outside 2) it rains 3) therefore, it gets wet ouside

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is there an example for law of detachment that has to do with a school rule? such as, cell phones or something?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the first two statements 1) and 2) are premises and they are the original arguments the last statement 3) is the conclusion and it's solely based on the premises 1) and 2) combined using the law of detachment

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

hmm how about if you text on your phone during class, then you will get your phone taken away Suzy is texting on her phone therefore, suzy will get her phone taken away

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay..., I understand now, but can I get like 2 more examples for school rules for Law of Detachment?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you give me some rules

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

or some examples

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

to see if you understand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well theres a rule for no cheating so another example could be if you cheat on your test, you will earn a 0% on your test.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

keep going, you need to expand it out further

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I forgot the, then, on it. so it would be: if you cheat on a test, then you will earn a 0% on the test.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you need 2 more lines (look at how I did it)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh..., ha! if you cheat on a test, then you will earn a 0% on the test. Danni cheated on her test therefore, the teacher took Danni's test and marked a 0 on the test.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

good, you got it

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you can simplify the last part and just say "therefore, Danni got 0% on her test" but you get the idea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay! thanks!(:

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome
