what does 4x^2-3x-10 factor out to

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

(x-2) (4x+5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you only divide double digit numbers when factoring ex. 16x^2+blah-blah = (4x+blah)(4x-blah) or can you do it with single digits like my original question (2x-blah)(2x+blah)?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I am not sure what your asking?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

divide into what do you mean how I divided the 10? I divided the 10 into 5 and 2 because it has these factor I would have divided for example 8 into 4 and 2!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

double and single digits don't matter! I could have had 19 instead of ten and I would NOT split/divide it !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I meant double digits before the x^2 like 16x^2 is divide and used as 4x in both of these ( ) can you do it with single digits... like 4x^2 and use 2x in both

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

What i told you about the ten would apply to the 4x^2 as well, lets say it was 23x^2, would you split/divide it? No, b/c you can't. It is the matter of factors! Also if you can factor without dividing, then do that! If there is something like 16x^2 it is not 100% that you will have to divide it

kk gotcha and thanks!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):
