I guess this depends on what religion your referencing.  In the Old Testament its said that man is created in God's image, which means everything an individual experiences creates an image of God within.  Christ said it slightly differently, "I could do nothing but the Father shows me first".  These go with the initial definition of fear, conscious or aware, in the Biblical statement "Fear the Lord thy God".

God created us to fellowship with Him and to partake of His blessings. He designed that we enjoy our life on earth. In fact, His original plan was for us to enjoy life on this planet for eternity while living in these bodies He made for us. “You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created.” (Revelation 4:11)

I've always said I respect the Father, hence the honor, it would be presumptuous of me to try to give him power.  If anything he gives me what I need and any power required to fulfill his desire.
