Two Olympic swimmers, Ryan and Michael, create unique ripple waves in the water. The function created by Ryan is f(x) = 4x2 + 7. The function created by Michael is f(x) = 4x2 − 5x + 3. Describe to Ryan and Michael, using complete sentences, which operation results in the largest degree function and which operation results in the smallest degree function. Show your work to justify your reasoning.

is it four x squared?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think ryan has a higher degree function. not sure if i am looking at the question the right way tho.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it's asking which operation like addition, subtraction, etc.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think x is always positive hence ryan is higher. -5x reduces the function of micheals waves. Not sure tho.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk either, thanks anyways
