A page of pictures for a yearbook is 8 inches wide and11 and 1/2 inches tall. The top margin is 1/2 inch and the bottom margin is 5/4 inches. The space between each picture is at least 6/16 inch. How many 1.5-inch-tall pictures can fit in one column? Use a diagram to help you solve the problem. Please help me. Its so confusing.
Hello again. This one is a little hard. Draw it out to make sure I'm right, but I'll do my best. The total height is 11.5 the Margins take away 1.75 inches, so we now have 9.75 inches for pictures. The first picture doesn't need the 6/16 space, so it will bring us to 8.25. Now, each will take the 1.5 + 6/16 for the space. that gives us 15/8 per picture. 15/8 goes into 8.25 5.2 times. You can't have .2 of a picture so you can add 5 more.Don't forget the first picture. Anyway, the answer is 6 I think... that could be wrong. Check it by making a piece of paper.
thanks again sir.. i'll just try to draw.
