Can someone help me with a derivative problem? picture below

OpenStudy (avanti):

how does -1 + sec^2 x = tan^2 x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

start with \[\sin^2(x)+\cos^2(x)=1\] then divide all by \(\cos^2(x)\) and you will get it

OpenStudy (avanti):

sec^2 x = tan^2 x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, if you divide all by \(\cos^2(x)\) you get \[\tan^2(x)+1=\sec^2(x)\]

OpenStudy (avanti):

oh right! thank you so much! :)
