Bryan hiked up the top of the city creek in 3 hr and then returned down the canyon to the trailhead in another 2 hr. His spead downhill was 1 mph faster than his speed uphill. Ho wfar up the canyon did he hike?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let the distance he covered be x Therefore as speed= distance/Time (x/3)-----> uphill speed (x/2)-----> downhill speed

OpenStudy (anonymous):

His speed downhill was 1 mph faster than his speed uphill. So, \[\frac{ x }{ 3 }+1=\frac{ x }{ 2 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ x }{ 3 }-\frac{ x }{ 2 }=-1\]
