Run off fertilizer used by farmers can have negative effects on aquatic ecosystems by making an algal bloom. An algal bloom is a rapid increase or accumulation in the population of algae (typically microscopic) in an aquatic system. Normally algae is good, but when there is too much of it it blocks like from reaching phytoplankton in the water which means there would be no food for fish.
