1.Which statement explains the reason for the rise of the sharecropping system that developed in the South in the late 19th century?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

options Because most former slaves lacked advanced agricultural skills, Southern farmers created a way to train emancipated slaves without having to pay them. Because of widespread destruction of land after the war, most farms in the South had greatly reduced in size and the need for labor had diminished. New laws forced former slave owners in the South to provide shelter and employment for newly emancipated slaves. Emancipation left Southern farmers with a labor shortage, but they lacked the capital to hire wage workers on their farms.

I'd GUESS Emancipation left Southern farmers with a labor shortage, but they lacked the capital to hire wage workers on their farms. , but I'm honestly not 100% sure. Anyone else have any insight?

its asking what is the cause of the rise of share cropping then why would it d?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well sharecropping is where a landowner would allow someone to live on their land, and farm, in return the farmer would give the landowner a share of the crops. It just stands out to me as the only one that makes sense, but again I'm not 100% sure honestly.
