Algebra help? please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the value of x in the following equation 12x=30 5 1/5 72 720

OpenStudy (anonymous):

30/12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the question is asking what multiplies 12 into thirty

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so how would you solve it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Answer this : 4=2*2 4=2x find x . @janice1989

hartnn (hartnn):

12 x = 30 here , 'x' is MULTIPLIED by 12. so to isolate 'x' , we do the inverse operation of DIVIDING everything by 12 so, what u get when you divide both sides by 12 in 12x=30 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To answer that you divided 4 on 2 to find x . k ?!:) So in there do this work !:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

144 & 360

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What ???

hartnn (hartnn):

you got 144 and 360 by MULTIPLYING by 12 , you need to DIVIDE by 12 actually

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uhh have you learned that rule about what you do to one side you have to do to the other?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I missed type something hold on. Its 12x=60 not 30 oh my gosh i am so sorry!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

same thing

hartnn (hartnn):

doesn't matter still you divide by 12 on both sides of 12x=60

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 & 5

hartnn (hartnn):

correct! so, 1x = 5 so, x= 5 got this ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

He gets it. he asked so would it be 5 or 1/5??

hartnn (hartnn):

lets verify it too left side = 12 x = 12*5 = 60 = right side so yeah, x=5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in hope of attracting more buyers a printer company decides to cut all its prices by half. if the new price of a printer is %54 how much did the printer cost before the change in price?? $20 $27 $54.50 $108.00 ***

hartnn (hartnn):

let old price be $x new price = 1/2 of old price = (1/2) * 54 got this ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

got it.

hartnn (hartnn):

so what will be new price ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

27

hartnn (hartnn):

oops i made an error, new price = 54 so, 54 = (1/2)x now find x and it not 27...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

he said would be it A?

hartnn (hartnn):

no.. see, prices cut by half means new prices = (1/2) * old prices new price = 54 is given we need old price =x so, 54 = (1/2)x multiply 2 on both sides, what u get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think hes just guessing because hes getting tired of doing algebra LOL!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

108 & 1

hartnn (hartnn):

yes, so, x =108 :) if he is tired, he can do some part of homework later...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hes homeschooled and once he starts it he cant finish. so there is one more question. So answer would be 108 he said?

hartnn (hartnn):

yes, 108 is correct answer. post the next Question :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the solution x=6 is a solution to which of the following equations?? -5x=1 3=18x -4x=-20 60=10x

hartnn (hartnn):

take each choice, one by on 1) -5x =1 left side = -5x = -5(6) = -30 right side = 1 so left side \(\large \ne\)right side so its not the first choice, got this ?

hartnn (hartnn):

\(\ne\) means not equal to

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is just a simple question as i have helped you with many questions now, how come you are unable to help your son with these questions? Were you never taught it? i learned these things in middle school or so but i do get that some people dont retain the info! :) this is only one of th things i really remember Lol.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am 51 years old... I never learned this stuff back when i went too school.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay. was your son born in 1989 or something? Lol the date in your user! xD But yes hartnn is right^^with the above question :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

He said its D No i got married in 1989.

hartnn (hartnn):

very good! D is correct :) you son is starting to become more intelligent :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you hartnn! we are going to stop with algebra for awhile and work on some other things. thanks so much for your help!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh i think you messaged me the wrong question then! you had said to me that x=5 haha sorry about that!

hartnn (hartnn):

you are most welcome ^_^ good luck!
