Write a description for each step needed to solve the problem. Then show the steps using equations. Write a sentence that answers the question in the problem. 1. Carla bought 2 3/4 lbs of black beans at $0.97 a lb. She also bought 15 tortillas for $0.39 each. Carla also had a coupon for $0.50 off the total price of tortillas. How much did Carla spend on black beans and tortillas?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You need the steps, or just the sentence at the end? It's hard to explain, and I can give you the equation too, if you'd like

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I do need all of it, but if you could just make the equation that'd be cool too. Has to follow order of operations

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You do the PEMDAS after you come up with the equation. Okay, so there's two things needed to be done to get the equation. 1. Carla bought 2 3/4 lbs of black beans at $0.97 a lb, what does that tell you? That 0.97a = 2 3/4 lbs of beans That's how much she spent on the beans 2. She bought 15 tortillas for 0.39 each. so 0.39a *15 = how much she spent on tortillas without the coupon. Then divide the amount that she spent without the coupon, by 1/2 to get how much she spent on tortillas. That explains how to do it, but it's harder to explain after that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what would be the equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You still need the equation? there's basically the answer right in there, urgh, okay; 0.97(2.75) + 0.39(15) /2 = y y is the amount that was spent altogether, I gave you the a variables, now just do pemdas
