Marie, Brad, and Doug went to the mall. Brad spent three times as much money as Marie. Doug spent fifteen dollars more than Brad. If Doug spent $60 at the mall, which of the following equations should be used to find out how much money Marie spent?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so take 60 and subtract 15, (45) if brad spent 45, and spent 3 times as much as marie, divide 45 by 3. marie spent 15 dollars. (60-15)/3

Thanks. I get so confused w/ these type questions.

its really quite easy if you look at one thing at a time. so doug has 60, and thats 15 more than brad so brad has 15 less than doug, (subtract 15) which is 45. now marie, spent 3 times LESS than 45. so divide by 3 hope that helps for future type questions
