Please help! How do I find y in 10y - 2y = 56? I know it's basic but i can't seem to figure it out. Do I ad 2y to both sides and then divide?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Simplify. Subtract 10y -2y=8y 8y=56 now solve by dividing both sides by 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you get 8y in the begining?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can subtract 10y & 2y because they are like terms. I subtracted.
