I'm doing a storyboard for US history A, and I have to write a story with actual facts. So i'm writing about a 13 yr old irish kid who is coming to america. I have questions on the immigration process. When they got on the ship, were they given tags before? or after they got to ellis island? I know they got inspection cards and were immediately sent to inspection when they got off the ship. and also, what were some areas in new york where they settled after they were done with the whole process? I have an idea of what I want to write after the family is like done with everything

OpenStudy (zale101):

when did Irish immigrants come to America, what year?

OpenStudy (zale101):

from that, say what year ur character traveled from Ireland to America

OpenStudy (zale101):

what living conditions that drived people away from Ireland, was the economy bad? Was there a war?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i have to base it off of like 1870-1930s, when european immigrants were coming in like a million a year or whatever i have yet to find a ship and the exact year it sailed over. well my character is a 13 yr old boy, his father died and he lives in a small shack in the irish ghetto with his mother and little brother. he does little things like cleans houses and delivers paper so he can provide food for the family. they don't have anything to their name, so when the mom pawns her necklace and gets tickets to america, it takes them about a month to get there

OpenStudy (zale101):

wait, u said that u already know they got inspection cards and were immediately sent to inspection when they got off the ship, then use that in your short story :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, but i need to know when they got their tags. before they sailed over or after they arrived in america?

OpenStudy (zale101):

yeah, but just writing is living conditions in Ireland doesn't help. I suggest u to do some research on why there was many push factors in Ireland. Or i'll do a quick research right now :)

OpenStudy (zale101):

oh and about the tags, i don't know that :(

OpenStudy (zale101):

"When they landed, the immigrants had numbered tags pinned on their clothes which indicated the manifest page and line number on which their names appeared. " i got this from: http://sydaby.eget.net/swe/ellis_island.htm

OpenStudy (zale101):

i think they got their tags when they arrived at America

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i've literally been researching all day thank you so much

OpenStudy (zale101):

no problem :)

OpenStudy (zale101):

i consider myself a good researcher lol because most of my assignments requires researching

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahh. that'll be really helpful in college lol

OpenStudy (zale101):

i am in college, how did u know lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well there ya go, lol.
