Romanticism came right after the Enlightenment. Many Enlightenment thinkers valued logic, reason, and scientific thinking. Many artists and writers of the Enlightenment also valued logic and reason. In the 1700s in Europe, the dominant style in the arts was neoclassicism, which means "new classicism." Neoclassical artists admired certain qualities of Greek and Roman art and literature, such as harmony, order, and balance.
