what types of issues were causing sectionalism
Sectionalism is defined as loyalty to a specific region or state in a country, rather than loyalty to country as a whole. It's the separation caused a conflict of values and morals for the country meaning to own a slave or not. Also, the economic differences between the North which was more industrial and the South which was more agricultural was a huge difference and how the North wanted to function was by trading within the country and by creating the textiles and other industrial needs for the South. The South would grow the crops, for example, the food, cotton, and tobacco; the south actually believed that England's trading products were better and they wanted it. England saw the chance to make more profit so taxes were put on imported products and the South didn't like it.
