If you have 8 hats (2 different colors) and you want to pull out one of those colors... first time is a 50% chance. Next round is a 50% chance, and third round is a 50% chance... Each round, your probability of pulling the same color is 50% of previous; so 50% x 50% x 50% = 1/8.

0.5x0.5=0.25... 0.25x0.5= 0.125... 1/8=0.125
