Is there any thing bad about lysosomes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Absolutely. Lysosomes basically act as the garbage dump/recycling of macromolecules within the cell. They contain hydrolase enzymes that help break down these molecules, however when the enzyme does not function properly (or if other issues arise), macromolecules can't be broken down and accumulations occur (bad). This leads to a host of diseases classified as lysosomal storage diseases. If everything is working properly, lysosomes function properly and allow the cell to remain healthy.
