Can I change 17(x-1) to -17(x+1)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, 17(1+x) = -17(1-x) slightly different than what you wrote

OpenStudy (anonymous):

made a mistake in first thing i wrote. but no :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. thanks!

Would you mind answering something? In factoring 5(x-1)^2+17(x-1)+12, do I find ac first or can I just factor out the (x-1) right away?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you'll probably want to expand. i see no way to factor it out right away to solve for x. it can look like this: (x-1)[5(x-1) + 17] + 12 not really useful

ok. thank you!
