write the value of x-5 given that x is in the open interval (4,6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just sub in the values for x between the interval so 4 -5 + 5-5 + 6-5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the definition of an open interval?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

an open interval does not include endpoints

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The only numeric in the interval (4, 6) is 5. So, solve for \(x - 5 = 5\).

OpenStudy (snowfire):

I think it is asking you to list all the possible values of x-5 when x is bound by (4,6). That is just my guess though, since I don't remember having problems worded in this way.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

isn't simply 4 < x - 5 < 6 then simplify

OpenStudy (snowfire):

That's what I thought it was, but I didn't want to ruin the fun of solving it ^^
