1) Degradative enzymes within Lysosome, are active in acidic pH, cytosol has phH 7 or 7.2, hence the degradation process is localized within lysosome, where it has the active form of enzymes, due to acidic pH (4-5). 2) Lysosomal membrane permeabilization (LMP) or the lysosomal enzymes triggering apoptosis , is less understood, but this process results in the release of oxygen free radicals, and these ROS are neutralized in lysososmes...
