Updates most likely mean maintenance. This website has a lot of maintenance.

Not all updates are what you see.  Sometimes it is to deal with a server issue.  Sometimes it is to upgrade a feature behind the scenes.  Both have the same updates message while one is not really an update.

Or the site can be down to reduce stress on the servers. And to fix some minor glitches. Or to put in the new update.
