Can someone help with derivatives?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Find the slope of the tangent line to the curve y=x^3 at the point (-1,-1)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

find the derivative of \(f(x)=x^3\) using the all mighty power rule once you have \(f'(x)\) then compute \(f'(-1)\) for your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so use the equation \[\lim_{x \rightarrow -1}= (f(x)-f(a))\div(x-a)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok we can do that too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\large \lim_{x\to -1}\frac{x^3+1}{x+1}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

factor the numerator it is the sum of two cubes you get \[\frac{(x+1)(x^2-x+1)}{x+1}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cancel, then replace \(x\) by \(-1\)

Thank you so much!
