I was hoping you would NOT say that. I am quite suspicious why you are given TWO results in four of the five possible responses.

As written, if they are REALLY just grouping and we REALLY have the entire problem statement...

[x+2]+16=14
[x+2] = -2
x = -4

...and we see that there is no correct answer given.
