I would put my name on it and put a disclaimer or something then.

Tell them directly and explicitly that the essay is not to be plagiarized and that legal consequences will take place if they do.( You will sue their retriceoff)

Yes
 password protection That one is definitely good but you have to make sure you use something that is not easily crackable like an MD5 hash encryption
