What was the conflict between Native Americans and the U.S. government relating to western lands? How did this conflict get resolved?

I remember studying this last year,.... but I don't exactly remember all of the details. But I'll try to recall any details I can. XD 
I remember that the Native Americans were upset because the U.S Government was forcing them out of their land, and forcing them to migrate West.

The Natives were forced to move to "Reservations", which were plots of land reserved specifically for them. The condition of this land was very poor, (Dirt unusable for farming, No animals for them to Hunt,...etc.) The U.S Government said that in these lands, they would be protected from American Settlers, but many Reservations were still ambushed and those who lived within them were killed.
