How can we determine the center of gravity?

you mean practically!?? .. well its simple

just punch a few holes in the object.. and then hang it from various holes and draw lines vertically downwards.. wherever the lines intersect .. that is the centre of gravity.. 

can u think why  this is always true?!

well that question was my actual question but anyway I think its because at that point all the  forces of the same amount is being applied and at that point the masses (upper and lower) are equal.But how is gravity involved?

you see if you pivot it anywheere.. Fg acts at cog and produces a torque(about the pivot) .. and rotates the body.. until that cog is right below the pivot.. because then the torque about the pivot is zero
