OpenStudy (hihi67):

Hey, what does the first sentence mean exactly?

OpenStudy (hihi67):

Does it mean it is the square of x, or what? Sorry, I'm not good with the word part of math.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6. C.

OpenStudy (hihi67):

Oh, I get it!

OpenStudy (hihi67):

Okay look, the square root of 100 is ten

OpenStudy (hihi67):

And half of 10 is five.

http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/50475dabe4b0c3bb098603bb This link explains it all

OpenStudy (hihi67):

Okay, so just do the opposite on 6, and double it, which makes 12. The square of 12 is 144! So C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=kx replace values of x and y to find k then solve for x=6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did these on the closed question earlier http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/525416d6e4b0328cd503872d i would have done it before it closed but i had class

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i can copy them here if you prefer?

OpenStudy (hihi67):

She's not here, so I think you should do that. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

direct variation is y=kx but in this case since its the square of x y=kx^2 substitute the variables in order to find k 100=k5^2 100=25k k=4 now substitute k into the equation y=4x^2 now we can find y with x y=4(6^2) y=4(36) y=144 so again the answer is C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

inverse variation is y=k/x or k=xysince its two x its y=k/2x or k=2xy we will use the 2nd one since its easier, substitute x and y k=2(2)*5 k=4*5 k=20 so the equation is y=20/2x so substitute x y=20/(2*10) y=20/20 y=1 so the answer is A

courage to type that stuff @insanitycat
