First, you need to isolate the "x". Since the "x" term is in the denominator of a fraction, multiply both sides of the equation by the inverse of 1/5x which would be 5x/1 (just flip it): 2/5x (5x/1) = -10 (5x/1) Cancel and Simplify you get: 2 = -10 (5x) Continue to simplify: 2 = -50x Divide both sides by -50 to further isolate the "x": 2/-50 = x
