How do I solve this system? 5x + 4y = -13 3x - y = -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you prefer substitution or elimination ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

substitution is probably easier.....so here is what you do.. 3x - y = -1 3x + 1 = y now sub 3x + 1 in for y in the other equation and solve for x. Once x is found, sub that value into either of the equations to solve for y.
