What is the structural formula for benzoic acid and oh-?? Does anyone know?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

benzoic acid and OH? You mean hydroxybenzoic acid?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i mean the reaction equation formula like when you titrate it together you get h2o + C6H5COO

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but how does the structure formula look like?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Bezoic acid is: C\(_6\)H\(_6\)COOH, whilst hydroxybenzoic acid could be: C\(_7\)H\(_8\)O\(_3\) but the formula simply like that can be very vague and possible isomers could cause confusion for a chemist.

okay, I was just making a measurement report for a previous experiment with benzoic acid and OH- so I was just wondering if it was possible to add some structural formulas to the report. THANKS!!!

OpenStudy (abb0t):

You should include them. I think it helps. But also include a thorough explanation of what you were doing and what happened in your discussion section.
