OpenStudy (tambudzai):

I'm working on 3.091 Session 2 homework question 1. It asks how much energy is produced by a 10 kg "hydrogen device." I looked it up and it appears that this is a nuclear fission reaction, where deutrium and tritium react to form helium-4 and a neutron with the release of energy. Am I on the right track? Also, is this a problem where you would use E=mc^2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, I believe for the first part of the question you can use E=mc^2 on 10 grams (not kg).
